I don't expect much from wines under $15 so it was a surprise to find I'd given a healthy rating to a Pinot Gris with a fairly diminutive price tag. Tiffin Hill is a small family vineyard in the Gladstone area of Wairarapa. This is a concentrated wine with character. Strong Nashi pear, root ginger and bready yeast lees flavours are supported by crisp acidity to give a pleasantly drying finish. Extraordinary value for a wine that stylistically is closer to Pinot Grigio than Pinot Gris. "Bob Campbell M.W

Grown on the alluvial gravel soils of the Martinborough Terrace during a perfect growing season for the district. A warm dry summer allowed fruit to ripen wonderfully producing powerful opulent fruit combing beautifully with barrel fermentation to create Burgundian inspired Pinot Gris. Flavours are reminiscent of ripe pears and white stone fruit with delightful soft texture ensuring a long commanding finish. 7 grams residual sugar has enhanced the fruit flavours Pinot Gris is renowned for. Complete malolatic fermentation and lees stirring has enhanced the texture and mouth feel allowing it to match most entrée dishes.

Kumeu River Chardonnay is drawn from six different vineyard sites in the Kumeu Region. We are particularly careful in selecting only the very best grapes from these vineyards for our Kumeu River Estate label. The 2007 vintage was terrific and produced wonderful Chardonnay throughout all our vineyards. The Estate Chardonnay from this vintage is ripe, rich and beautifully concentrated. The beautiful peach and hazelnut aromas along with the rich silky texture are distinct characteristics that we expect to see from this wine. It will be interesting to see how this develops alongside the wonderful 2006 Estate Chardonnay. The 2007 may turn out to be even better!
