Montepulciano the grape has nothing to do with Montepulciano the Tuscan town (whose great wines are confusingly made from Sangiovese). The Montepulciano grape is native to Adriatic (east coast) Italy and probably its most famous manifestation is Montepulciano D'Abruzzo.
